No Choice – In Gita Verse 2.37 O son of Kuntī, either you will be killed on the battlefield and attain the heavenly planets, or you will conquer and enjoy the earthly kingdom. Therefore, get up with determination and fight.
In life’s tumultuous march, the Bhagavad Gita emerges as an eternal beacon for action. Lord Krishna’s wisdom imparted to Arjuna transcends the battlefield, offering a universal edict: to accept the dance of Karma without being ensnared by the illusion of choice, therein fulfilling one’s Dharma with absolute presence.
Those who walk the path of awareness perceive existence as a continuous, uncontrived stream. The sage of Tao, in their sublime attunement, does not seek to dominate the flow of life but gracefully accompanies its meanderings. They perceive the mind’s proclivity for preference as the grand illusion it is.
Like clouds that wander without intention, a Buddha or an awakened being reflects such spontaneity within consciousness. Each moment is met with purity of purpose, devoid of selfish drive.
Witness the silent communion between Buddha and Mahakashyapa; it was not preference but a profound recognition – a moment when the seed of enlightenment found its destined soil. It echoed the natural law where Mahakashyapa’s preparedness drew wisdom, as surely as gravity draws the stream.
Krishna’s enlightening dialogue with Arjuna was born of a similar recognition. At the edge of conflicted duty, Arjuna’s ripe potential invited the sacred teachings. Krishna, seeing past his warrior’s hesitation, offered the gentle wisdom needed to realise a destiny intertwined with the cosmic play.
In the labyrinthine journey of life, we frequently grapple with the illusion of choice, a mere artefact of the mind’s divisive tendencies. But this is a veil over the truth of our Dharmic path. Our existence is not a problem to solve but a truth to embody, with the weight of personal will cast aside.
Thus, to stand firm in one’s Dharma is to anchor oneself in authenticity, accepting life’s bestowed role with an unwavering heart. We grow where we are planted, finding strength in natural simplicity, embracing our place in the world.
Let us therefore set aside the chaos of choice. Act from a place of resonance, not thought; presence, not planning. When our actions are guided by the cosmic tempo, they resonate with an essence beyond ego – bearing the subtle yet profound influence of the divine.
Embrace the simplicity of action with open-hearted surrender, becoming a channel for the universe’s melody. In doing so, your every action becomes an offering, enriching life’s myriad gardens with a scent only the divine can unfold.
Your life, thus surrendered to the song of existence, sings a silent yet omnipresent hymn, felt in the soul of the cosmos itself.
In the arena of action, freedom lies not in the deeds themselves but in the mindfulness with which they are performed. The Gita beckons us to more than mere action – it calls for our awakening, aligning our every move with the natural order, transcending the mirage of choice, guiding us towards the ultimate liberation through Karma.
