The Art of Conscious Participation: Leadership and Life through the Nāṭyaśāstra

Introduction

Welcome to Illuminating Education: Research, Awareness, and Meditation in the Classroom, brought to you by Bharatversity in collaboration with Osho Fragrance. I’m your host, Dhwani Shah.

Today, we are honored to host a guest whose work beautifully bridges the ancient and the modern, the academic and the experiential. She is an Experiential Learning & Development Facilitator, a dedicated Teacher, and a profound Nāṭyaśāstra Researcher. Please welcome Upasana Tendulkar.

Upasana is the dynamic Founder of Dancing Tales, where she masterfully integrates natural dance and the eternal wisdom of the Nāṭyaśāstra with cutting-edge methodologies to create holistic, immersive learning experiences. With a background that spans an MBA from Cardiff University and experience in HR and leadership consulting, her approach is uniquely interdisciplinary. She has applied principles from Kautilya’s Arthashastra in corporate settings and has even curated a course on ‘Managing Change Using Dance and Movements’ at Atlas University.

Her recent TEDx Talk which will be launched “Being in the Moment,” and workshops on Natya Meditation perfectly reflect her mission: to inspire intellectual, emotional, aesthetic and spiritual growth. Today, Upasana will guide us through “The Art of Conscious Participation: Leadership and Life through the Nāṭyaśāstra.” Get ready to explore how ancient grace can transform our modern awareness. Welcome, Upasana!

Topic Covered:

  1. How can understanding the Nine Rasas from the Nāṭyaśāstra directly inform a leader’s approach to conflict resolution and fostering team synergy in a modern workplace?
  2. Can you share a practical example of how the principle of Abhinaya (expressive communication) can be used to make a presentation more persuasive or an argument in public policy more impactful?
  3. Your work bridges ancient texts like the Nāṭyaśāstra and Arthashastra with corporate settings. What is the single most valuable lesson from this ancient wisdom for today’s leader facing constant change?
  4. What exactly is “Natya Meditation,” and how does “being in the moment” through movement enhance both our awareness and our capacity for leadership?
  5. What is the core connection between the “Tandava of Change” and managing organisational and personal transitions with grace and effectiveness?
