Nobody can humiliate me. Humiliation needs my acceptance.

This quote is a gateway to understanding the nature of subjective experience and the power of consciousness.

When Osho says, “Nobody can humiliate me. Humiliation needs my acceptance,” it is a declaration of the sovereignty of one’s inner space. It is a revelation that any external action, event, or word can only penetrate and disturb you if you allow it to. It recognises that the ego is often the recipient of humiliation; it is the part of us that reacts, that feels diminished or insulted by another’s words or actions.

But you are not the ego. You are the watcher, the pure consciousness that observes the ego. You see, the ego is always on the defensive, seeking validation, and prone to feeling slighted. However, as the watcher, you can realise that these attempts to humiliate are merely occurrences in the external world that do not truly touch the essence of who you are.

Humiliation requires you to agree with the perspective of the other, to accept that their judgement is a reflection of your true self. But this is a fallacy. Your true self is beyond judgement, beyond harm. If you do not accept the humiliation, if you remain centred in your own being, aware that you are separate from the transient play of insults and praises, then humiliation becomes impotent. It is like a wave crashing against a rock – a lot of noise and spray, yet the rock remains unshaken.

Remember, nobody has the power to make you feel inferior without your consent, as Eleanor Roosevelt beautifully articulated. Today, I encourage you to be the sky. The clouds of humiliation may pass through but they do not touch the vastness of your being. Remain centred in your infinite sky-like nature and know that you are beyond any attempt to humiliate or debase you.

Meditation is key in realising this detachment. As you meditate, you start disidentifying with the ego and begin to know your true self. You will find that in the light of awareness, no darkness of humiliation can prevail. May you walk the path of awareness and know the freedom from all bounds of acceptance and rejection.
