Attachment is the very opposite of love. Love says, ‘I want you to be happy.’ Attachment says, ‘I want you to make me happy.’
Attachment and love are often confused with one another, yet in their essence, they are as distant as the earth is from the sky. Let me unfold the petals of this insight for you.
When you say ‘attachment,’ it is a binding force. It ties you to the other with an iron chain, with expectations, with demands. Attachment seeks to possess and in that possessiveness it smothers the very soul it desires to hold. Like a caged bird, it looks beautiful perhaps, but it has lost its song; it has sacrificed the essential freedom that gives it life.
Now, let’s reflect on ‘love.’ Love is not a chain; it is liberation. It holds nothing back; it seeks nothing in return. Love does not say ‘I’ or ‘me’. It is the disappearance of that ego that always wants. Love is the offering of joy, of peace, of freedom to the other. Love does not demand, ‘Make me happy,’ because true happiness in love can only come from the happiness of the beloved.
In love, you become a mirror reflecting the other, not an anchor holding them down. In that pure reflection, there is beauty, there is the exquisite dance of soul meeting soul, where neither partner trips the other, but both soar to higher bliss.
So, on your journey, watch closely. The moment attachment enters, love begins to escape like the scent from a bottle left uncorked. Cherish love in its purest form, give without condition, receive with grace, and you shall know the essence of divine connection which is true love. Seek not to be made happy, but to be happiness itself, and in that being, all that you seek shall find you.
