If the drop disappears in the ocean… This is what Jesus calls ‘life and more abundant life.’
Life is a vast ocean, boundless and deep. Like a drop, each of us is a small entity with our own limited perception and experiences. When a drop of water falls into the grand ocean, it loses its individual identity, becoming indistinguishable from the vast waters that surround it. This metaphor reflects the spiritual process of merging the individual soul with the universal consciousness.
The drop disappearing into the ocean symbolises the ultimate union, where the small self, the ego, dissolves into the vastness of existence. In this state, there is no division, no separation between you and the cosmos. You become one with life itself – you are life.
Jesus spoke of ‘life and more abundant life,’ which can be understood as an invitation to experience existence in its totality, beyond the limited scope of individual desires, fears, and aspirations. It is a call to transcend the ordinary plane of survival and to embrace a higher consciousness, rich with divine love, awareness, and oneness.
To live abundantly means to let go of one’s small identity to experience the immeasurable beauty and mystery of the whole. It is a state of consciousness where we are not merely surviving but thriving, not just existing but truly living, where life flows through us with an intensity that is both immensely powerful and deeply peaceful. In this way, the individual soul becomes a channel for the divine, and in doing so, finds the greatest fulfilment.
So, to dissolve like a drop into the ocean is a journey of surrender and transcendence where one is no longer confined by the limited self, but instead, is reborn into a more profound and more abundant life that Jesus and many mystics have pointed us toward. It is here that we may find the essence of what it means to truly live.
