1. Third Kosha, Manomaya Kosha, is bigger than the second, subtler than the second, higher than the second.
  2. Manomaya means composed of manas or mind. Thinking, feeling and being willing. The mind along with the five sensory organs taste (tongue), smell (nose), vision (eyes), hearing (ear), and touch (skin), is said to constitute the Manomaya Kosha or “mind-sheath”. It is the cause of diversity. Man’s bondage is caused by the mind, and liberation, too, is caused by that alone.
  3. These five Koshas, these five seeds, are five stations where the perceiver again and again becomes the perceived. When you move from the gross body, the food body, the Annamaya Kosha, to the Vital body, Pranamaya Kosha, you immediately see that from the Pranamaya Kosha the Annamaya Kosha can be seen as an object. It is outside the Pranamaya Kosha. Just as the house is outside you, when you stand in the Pranamaya Kosha, your own body is just like a wall around you. Again you move from the Pranamaya Kosha to Manomaya Kosha, the mental body; the same happens. Now, even the Pranamaya Kosha is outside you, like a fence around you; and this way it goes on.
  4. The third body is Manomaya kosha, the mental body. This is bigger, more spacious than the second. And if you don’t grow it, you will remain almost just a possibility of man but not a real man. Because ordinarily one has a borrowed mind; it is not one’s mind. It is safer to follow others. One will repeat and go on repeating. That repetition will not become a growth in you. That repetition will be a hindrance.
  5. If you become followers and are not ready to transcend your Mamomaya Kosha, your mental body will suffer tremendously, terribly it will not grow. A believer, follower has no Manomaya Kosha. He has a false manomaya kosha which has not come out of his own being but has been forced from without.
  6. One who has transcended their Mamomaya Kosha energy from their sensory organs instead going out will turn in. Means they can connect themselves to the universe through inner sensory organs.
  7. To become more conscious to direct the energy towards self in yoga one practises pratyahara, and dharana, which directly correlate to the mind. This is called the Manomaya Kosha. With this practise one is thinking from one’s own centre, Hara.
  8. By transcending sensory organs and mind one will be able to transcend Manomaya Kosha. With this the third body body will be pure and the sensory organ and mind will have organic unity with the Soul. Now it is easy to enter into the fourth body; otherwise it will be difficult – you will be loaded with sensory organs and mind. Purification of the body simply means now the body will have organic unity with the Soul, Universe.
