When joy has a reason, it is not going to last long. When joy is without any reason, it is going to be there forever.

Life is a mysterious dance – the play of existence where reasons become chains and no-reason is the purest freedom. The quote you bring to Osho’s attention is a reflection on the transient versus the eternal, the bondage of the conditional and the liberation of the unconditional.

When you say joy has a reason, you are speaking of a happiness that is dependent – dependent on a person, a situation, an object or any ephemeral circumstance. These are the joys of the marketplace: you have something and you are happy, you lose it and you are miserable. This joy is a slave to the external; it is as fleeting as a cloud.

But joy without a reason is a flower that blooms from the innermost core of your being – an unconditional state that simply exists because you do. It is not “because of,” it is “in spite of.” It is not a reaction, it is your very nature. When you are at one with the universe, joy is not a result; it is your essence. It thrives in the soil of your being without any conditions, unperturbed by the changing seasons of life.

This inner joy is what Osho invites you to discover within you. It does not rely on success or failure, gain or loss – it is the joy of simply being alive. Meditate on this, go deep into your consciousness, past the layers of desires and fears, and you will find a reservoir of peace and joy that is unshakeable. Once you tap into this source, it will be with you forever – because it has always been there, waiting for you to look inwards.
