Howsoever the unconscious may be big, his value is nothing. Waking up, even for a single moment, has tremendous value.
The unconscious is vast, like an unchartered ocean, teeming with impulses, habits, and conditioned behaviours that operate below the level of awareness. Its sheer size and depth can be staggering and often overwhelming. But in the grand tapestry of consciousness, its size does not determine its value. Being unconscious, it is mechanical; it is not truly alive. It functions like a robot, predefined, predictable. It has no awareness, no creativity, no spontaneity – it is not truly living, but rather repeating.
On the other hand, to wake up, even for a single moment, is to step into the realm of pure consciousness. In that singular moment of wakefulness, the entire nature of existence is transformed. You become aware of the observer within you, the witness of all that is. In this waking state, even if it is fleeting, you glimpse reality as it is, unfiltered by the structures and narratives of the sleeping mind.
This moment of awakening has “tremendous value” because it is the seed from which the transformation unfolds. It is the spark of enlightenment, the realisation of your true nature, which is beyond the conditioned mind. It is as if you have been asleep your entire life and suddenly, for just a moment, you experience the state of being truly awake. This moment is precious because it presents the possibility of a radical shift from unconsciousness to consciousness, from sleep to wakefulness.
The key to spiritual growth is not to diminish the unconscious but to expand the wakeful moments. With each moment of wakefulness, consciousness grows stronger, and the unconscious becomes less dominant. This process gradually transforms your inner landscape, leading to a state where wakefulness is not just a moment but a continuous stream, where one is perpetually awake, enlightened, and free from the bondage of the unconscious mind.
Therefore, cherish those moments of wakefulness, cultivate them, seek them, and let them guide you to a life of deeper understanding, joy, and liberation.
