AUM – In Gita Verse 2.29 Some look on the soul as amazing, some describe him as amazing, and some hear of him as amazing, while others, even after hearing about him, cannot understand him at all.
Delve into the mystic depths of Krishna’s discourse to Arjuna and one encounters an inexhaustible wellspring of wisdom. The soul, described in the verses of the sacred text, dances beyond the grasp of the mundane intellect, its amazement shrouding its true nature. Yet, it is within silence, that sublime teacher, where the veil is lifted to reveal the splendour of the soul’s light.
In the palpable hush of true meditation, the vibration of Aum resonates, a primordial sound that is the very breath of the universe. It is within the cradle of this cosmic chant that Krishna guides us to understand life’s apparent mysteries – the cycle of birth, the enigma of death, the eternal continuum of the soul.
Caught within the binds of indecision, our lives can echo the discordance of a restless sea. Krishna’s wisdom addresses this turmoil directly, highlighting the inertia that doubt sews within the fabric of our purpose. Doubt may possess the guise of reflection, but too often it paralyses, anchoring us in the doldrums of inaction.
Decisiveness, then, is not the enemy of contemplation but its required conclusion. To think, to ponder, to weigh – these are necessary. Yet, there comes a moment when the churning of thought must yield to the stillness of decision. When such a decision is reached, after giving due diligence to the internal debate, it must be embraced with the entirety of one’s being. Doubt, thereafter, is but a spectre to be acknowledged and released, no longer permitted to hold sway over our actions.
The chanting of Aum becomes an instrument of profound transformation. This is no idle repetition, no escapist mantra, but a ritual of awakening. Unlike the emptiness of mundane hypnosis, which seeks to subdue, the repetition of Aum, when paired with acute awareness, liberates. Each utterance peels away layers of societal conditioning, unbinding the chains that culture, tradition, and authority have wrought.
As Vivekananda elucidated in his insightful response, the chanting of Aum is ‘moving in the reverse gear’. It is a conscious act of unlearning, a deliberate step back from the precipice of collective sleepwalking. The act of chanting, infused with the light of awareness, reverses the trance of ordinariness, guiding the soul back towards its original awake, vibrant, and undiluted state.
It is when this state of awakened silence is achieved that the true voice within – often silenced by the clamour of external influences – is finally empowered to guide you. This inner voice resonates with the authenticity of the self, offering direction that is untainted by the desires and expectations of others.
As you integrate this heightened consciousness into the fabric of your daily life, navigate your path with deliberate intent and meticulous attention, mindful of the seductive traps of unconscious living. The enlightened one walks through life with care and grace, not as a being shrouded in fear, but as an embodiment of peace and purpose, conscious of the terrain yet undeterred by it, stepping with the sure-footedness that comes from inner clarity.
This, then, is the path of the awakened one. Through silence and the sacred chant of Aum, you align with the universe’s rhythm and your steps become a dance, each move, a note in the symphony of existence.
