You Are Love – In Gita Verse 7.17 Of these, the one who is in full knowledge and who is always engaged in pure devotional service is the best. For I am very dear to him, and he is dear to Me.

To understand Krishna’s, this verse first we need to recollect our own experience with mother and child relationship. Mother and child whether they are physically available to each other or not but there is always something between them which is not coming in the way of their physical availability. Even though they live in this world; but there is no attachment, only devotion for each other. I am saying devotion, for each other mother is also ready to do anything for her love for children and children also will do anything for the mother.

Same quality expands when the person becomes enlightened, who has become one with himself. He has become whole, one with existence. Now he experiences through his own Godliness the Existence. It is a very similar process of mother and child, both are dear to each other. Or I will say it has much more than that as you have become whole, and Whole is presenting himself through you, through your Godliness, through your Love.

Once the person knows himself, Love, truth, bliss – there is an intrinsic core in them: they need to be shared; they are not sufficient unto themselves. Sharing is part, but they are not possessive. The reason is totally different. The reason is that love basically gives freedom: it gives freedom to oneself, it gives freedom to others. A love that becomes a bondage is not love; it is lust, it is an animal, it is not human. Love gives freedom, then it becomes human, but it is still a kind of relatedness.

There is one more dimension to love. In the first, love is a biological need; in the second it is a psychological sharing; in the third you are love. In the first it is a relationship, a possessiveness; in the second it is a relatedness, a friendship, a friendliness; in the third you are love itself. Your very being is love, you radiate love. Only then has love come to its crescendo – it has achieved the ultimate, the last – you can call it godliness.

We all have experienced that whenever from our heart we have called the Unknown or God, he is always available to us. As he is always sharing his being, his love through various possibilities, air, water, space, nature, etc. But due to our ego and salfiness which has clouded our consciousness we are not grateful to them unless we are in scarcity of that. In that scarcity we realize and remember God. Remember just for a few minutes when air is not available how much suffocation we feel and as soon as we get the air we feel the happiness which cannot be compared with any achievements. Immediately we become grateful at that moment. For a fraction of a second when we have connected ourselves with God, we express our love through gratitude. At that moment we and God become dearer to each other. For God, Existence, we are always dear to them. Only question of whether he is dear to us or not?

When the person becomes Enlightened he is living in self-remembering. He always remembers or calls God all the 24X7. So all the time he is dear to God and God is dear to him.

In my Bhagavad Gita Verse 5.12, blog I wrote – Patanjali calls it Self-Remembering. Self-Remembering does not mean to forget others. It only means without forgetting ourselves.

What’s the difference between us and enlightened people – Enlightened person has loved himself and we have a basic fallacy within us that we always loved somebody. So an enlightened person feels that he is dear to god and god is dear to him and we feel occasionally only. They know that they are Love and we are unconscious about ourselves that we are Love.

This is one of the most significant things about all human beings; their love is always for somebody, it is addressed – and the moment you address your love, you destroy it. It is as if you are saying, “I will breathe only for you – and when you are not there, then how can I breathe?”

Love should be like breathing. It should be just a quality in you – wherever you are, with whomsoever you are, or even if you are alone, love goes on overflowing from you. It is not a question of being in love with someone – it is a question of being in love.

People are frustrated in their love experiences, not because something is wrong with love…they narrow down love to such a point that the ocean of love cannot remain there. You cannot contain the ocean – it is not a small stream; love is your whole being – love is your godliness. One should think in terms of whether one is loving or not. The question of the object of love does not arise. With your wife, you love your wife; with your children, you love your children; with your servants, you love your servants; with your friends, you love your friends; with the trees, you love the trees; with the ocean, you love the ocean.

Krishna says that the person who has realized that he is Love – is in full knowledge and who is always engaged in pure devotional service is the best – he gives reminder to everyone of us – You are love.

Love is not dependent on the object, but is a radiation of your subjectivity – a radiation of your soul. And the vaster the radiation, the greater is your soul. The wider spread are the wings of your love, the bigger is the sky of your being.
