Installing Your Strategy
Once you have figured out your new strategy, it’s time to install it. Keep in mind that while it takes time and repetition to learn new behaviors, you can install a new strategy in a matter of minutes. As you do this, make sure that you are looking through your own eyes in whatever image you see in your mind. This is called being “associated,” and it enables you to realistically place yourself in the experience. To understand this exercise, use the example of moving from a state of apathy to feeling totally inspired.
Close your eyes and imagine yourself in the stuck or undesired state of apathy. Imagine that you are feeling emotionally dull, have no passion or excitement, and are feeling stuck with a “why bother” attitude.
Next, imagine yourself moving into the feeling of curiosity. Imagine a time when you were so curious about something that you felt called to explore and learn more about it, generating a high level of excitement. (Again, be sure you’re looking through your own eyes.)
As you move into a state of excitement, think of a specific time when you were full of excitement about something. See what you saw, hear what you heard, feel what you felt, and notice how you then began to feel inspired.
As you move into the state of being totally inspired, notice the emotions you are feeling and how different the world looks through this lens now that you are full of inspiration. This is your new strategy for moving from apathy to inspiration.
Your final step is to practice this new strategy in real time when you are feeling stuck in whatever state that tends to pull you down. Install your new strategy by using the metaphor from the children’s book The Little Engine That Could—moving from “I can’t do it” to “I think I can” to “I know I can” to “I did it.” With focused attention, an open mind and consistent practice, you will install your new strategy in no time at all.
Vineet would like to share his experience of self-motivation with all of you.
Upto 19 years of age I was at my home place with my family members. Upto 16 years of age I was quite motivated for in all my activity. But suddenly I found that after my schooling when I went to college my self-motivation was just evaporated.
I could see the difference in me but couldn’t figure it out why I did not have the courage to ask anyone. As now I am an adult and have fear if I will ask such a question, people will make fun of me.
As I was not self-motivated I followed what others guided. In the process I was feeling very much depressed from inside as against my interest I did my MTech from REC Kurukshetra. I did job in engineering college for about 18 years. This was really very bad period of my life till the time I suddenly came in contact with Osho and Oshodhara. From that I regained my self-motivation. And now I am working as JE(Junior Engineer) at Advanced Cancer Institute, Bathinda as I was totally fed up with teaching.
