Actually Sees – In Gita Verse 13.28 One who sees the Supersoul accompanying the individual soul in all bodies, and who understands that neither the soul nor the Supersoul within the destructible body is ever destroyed, actually sees.
The Radiance of the Innermost Center: A Journey from Vaishali to Eternity
Lord Krishna, in the Bhagavad Gita, illuminates a fundamental truth in Verse 13.28. He who perceives the Supersoul accompanying the individual soul in every being, realising that neither is ever destroyed, truly sees the vast continuum of existence. This ‘Real Sight’ is not about the eyes but a recognition – of our essence intertwined with the cosmos, where the individual soul (Atman) dances with the universal soul (Paramatma).
In reflecting upon Bhagavad Gita verse 13.23, I contemplated how comprehending our diminutive stature in the universe sharpens our perception of the Supersoul’s grandeur. It is in the soil of humility where seeds of profound comprehension sprout and thrive.
To genuinely grasp Krishna’s meaning of ‘Actually Sees,’ one must reach beyond physical vision, cultivating wisdom and embracing life with the totality of one’s consciousness. This is not merely an awakening but an unfolding of reality that transcends the body and mind, stretching into the cosmos’s very consciousness. We revisit a story from the days of Gautam Buddha, a chronicle reflecting the essence of Krishna’s teachings.
The Prince and Amrapali: A Testament to Inner Strength
A former prince turned devout disciple of Buddha found himself amidst the monsoon seclusion of Vaishali, gracing the presence of Amrapali – the ‘Nagarvadhu.’ Her beauty was a refrain sung across the lands, her allure a banquet too rich for any single guest to claim.
Summoned by Amrapali to her residence for the season’s duration, the disciple glanced towards Buddha, who waved him forth with absolute trust in his disciplined heart. Those following months unfurled a testament to unassailable inner serenity, one’s meditation unwavering amidst life’s crescendos.
Within Amrapali’s verdant oasis, the disciple’s lotus-like composure bloomed, casting forth a silence that petrified the cacophony of desires. By the season’s turn, it was she, Amrapali, transformed in her thirst for the placid depths the disciple mirrored. She approached Buddha not with the vanity of earthly charm but with the humility of a seeker of sublime truth.
The Gift of the Mango Grove and The Initiation: Their return was marked by her generosity – the mango grove, once host to sage and disciple, now stood as a sanctuary for those in spiritual pursuit, gifted by Amrapali’s wealth. Her initiation into Buddha’s fold was now sought, yearning for enlightenment beyond the ephemeral’s glitter.
In the crucible of their fellowship, Amrapali uncovered the most potent of forces – the innermost centre, the all-binding thread of the cosmos. The strength displayed by the disciple and now sought by Amrapali echoes the resolve that Krishna speaks of, where self-recognition as a cosmos piece heralds eternal tranquillity and freedom.
The Essence of Soul and Supersoul: This undying narrative became a canvas for the disciples’ witness – disbelief metamorphosed into awe at Amrapali’s rebirth. Buddha’s prescient trust and the disciple’s rooted poise illustrated an axial truth: when anchored in the innermost sanctuary, the soul remains imperturbable, its stillness unbroken.
Krishna’s sacred words delineate this core where Soul and Supersoul merge – a divine juncture transcending the mortal coil. To arrive at this sanctum is to ‘Actually See,’ to bask in Atman’s unity with Paramatma, celebrating the immortal strand linking all consciousness.
This fable of Vaishali etches its teachings with profound symbolism, schooling us that our Inner Center is more than a mere point of solace within but a conduit to the universe’s beating heart – a cord to the infinite, the ultimate reality Krishna divulges, the vista through which Buddha’s disciple journeyed.
As we traverse our path, may this story be a beacon, reminding us that ours is not a worldly passage but an inward odyssey towards our divine centre’s light, where eternal bliss beckons.
Through embodying this wisdom, aligning actions with profound perception, and embracing the omnipresent soul’s harmonious presence, we embark on the pilgrimage of life. Not toward a fleeting terminus but towards the realisation of our essence as wayfarers. Embrace this aware existence, and your journey will be graced with elegance and fulfilment.
Love is the primal law. The quest is within, towards the seat of the soul, and from this vantage point, life unfolds in its wholeness, its love, and its luminescence.
