Integrating Ancient Wisdom in Modern Life: Six Distractions of Mind

  1. Patanjali divides the unconscious into two. He says Sabija samadhi – when the unconscious is there and mind has been dropped consciously, it is a samadhi with seeds – Sabija. When those seeds are also burned, then you attain the perfect – the Nirbija samadhi: samadhi without seeds.
  2. By practising Sabija Samadhi you will be able to transcend six distractions of the mind and your mind will become transparent. They are Adherence, Envy, Vengeance, Censorious, Unforgiving, and Resentment.
  3. By Transcending Adherence we are not attached with any gross or subtle but got connected with the universe, cosmos. By transcending Envy we drop possessiveness and we will start sharing. By transcending Vengeance anger is no longer but love arises without any reason. By transcending Censorious fault-finding nature will drop and we will find our incompleteness and others incompleteness complementary to each other. By transcending Unforgiving stubbornness will drop and you will become soft, flexible. By transcending Resentment dissatisfaction will drop and joy will arise in you.
  4. Once all six distractions of mind have transformed means then one becomes by and by capable of thinking. Thinking is a capacity; thoughts are not. Thoughts can be learned from others; thinking, never. Thinking you have to learn yourself.
  5. Thinking is a quality of your inner being. What does thinking mean? It means to retain your consciousness, to remain alert and aware, to encounter a problem. A problem is there: you face it with your total awareness. And then arises an answer – a response. This is thinking.
  6. Law of average is not applicable in the spiritual path. Practice needs to be done regularly and continuously without fail. Then only you will become transparent. In that transparency through your discrimination you will understand the message of spiritual scripture. With the knowledge of scripture you can unite or divide. It’s up to you how you perceive and focus.
  7. Once the mind has become transparent your mind will be still and will become a watcher. You will realise the Absolute Truth from the wisdom which arises from this transparency. This realisation of Absolute Truth will not be involved in any of the distraction. You will live in this world but the world will not enter you.
  8. Wisdom which has come from this realisation has destroyed all the seed of distracted mind and new seed of the world cannot sprout in this wisdom. This is Nirbija Samadhi which closes the account of the world. This simply means you will live in this world but the world will not enter you. He has established in his soul.
  9. When Nirbija samadhi, the ultimate ecstasy, without any seeds within you to sprout and to flower and to take you on further journeys into existence… then you disappear.
