Eight Fold Path of Yoga

  1. Purpose of Ashtanga Marg Yoga: The purpose of practising Ashtanga Marg Yoga is to cultivate higher discerning wisdom, enabling individuals to see beyond the limitations of the physical world and perceive the deeper truths of existence.
    • The primary objective of Ashtanga Marg Yoga is to cultivate higher discerning wisdom and eradicate ignorance.
    • Through dedicated practice, one can attain self-knowledge and ultimately break the cycle of karma.
    • Ashtanga Marg Yoga fosters a union between the mind, body, and spirit, leading to holistic well-being.
  2. External and Internal Limbs: The division of the Eight Limbs of Yoga into external (Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara) and internal (Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi) aspects is a key concept that underscores the interconnectedness between the physical, ethical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of yogic practice.
    • The external limbs lay the foundation for the internal limbs to purify the mind and lead to a state of higher consciousness.
    • Mastery of both external and internal limbs leads to a harmonious and balanced life.
    • External limbs focus on morals, internal on meditation.
  3. Eight Fold Path of Yoga: The Eight Fold Path of Yoga consists of Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi.
    • Reflect on moral principles (Yama) like non-violence and truth; dive into self-discipline practices (Niyama) such as cleanliness and contentment. Embrace disciplined postures (Asana) for physical and spiritual preparation; explore breath control (Pranayama) to enhance vitality. Delve into withdrawing senses (Pratyahara), cultivating concentration (Dharana), and experiencing transformative meditation (Dhyana) for inner peace and self-realisation.
