When pain, misery or anger happens, it is time to look within you, not around you.

This quote is about reflection and introspection rather than projection. When you experience pain, misery, or anger, it is a signal, an opportunity for you to delve deep into the recesses of your being. These emotions are messengers, telling you that something within your inner world needs attention.

Look at pain as a meditation. It brings your total attention to the present moment, and in that moment, you have a choice. You can either identify with the pain and become one with the suffering, or you can step back as a witness. In witnessing, you separate yourself from the emotion. You do not deny the emotion; you simply watch it, observe it, giving it space. This is a profound way to allow the emotion to express itself without getting entangled in it.

Misery often arises from attachment, from your clinging to things, people, and concepts. It is a consequence of not living in harmony with the reality of impermanence. When misery arises, it is time to go within and ask yourself, “What am I clinging to?” Reflect on the impermanent nature of life to ease the grasping and find solace in the transitory beauty of existence.

Anger is a fiery energy, a byproduct of frustration, unmet expectations, or feelings of injustice. It can become destructive if unleashed blindly. However, if you look within and find its root, it can also be transformative. Through introspection, you begin to understand the causes of your anger. You see the unfulfilled desires, the thwarted ego, or the hurt that fuels it. And in understanding, you begin to dissolve the power it holds over you. You transform the energy of anger into a force for change and self-improvement.

These emotions, when observed with awareness and without judgement, become doors to your inner world, leading to greater self-knowledge, peace, and liberation. Remember, the outer turmoil is reflective of the inner chaos. When you harmonise your interior, the external world’s impact on you will naturally diminish. The dramas of the outer world will lose their grip over you as you find the still point within yourself that is beyond all suffering.
