Change is never easy. We fight to hold on and we fight to let go.
This expression eloquently captures the essence of human struggle – the paradox of change. It is the intrinsic nature of existence to be in a state of flux, yet within the core of human beings lies a resistance to this very change.
Consider the existence around you as the dance of the universe, where each moment is a movement, a transformation from one form to another. This is the play of life. Trees lose leaves, only to burgeon anew. Caterpillars dissolve only to emerge as butterflies. The fight to hold on is the confrontation with attachment, the desire to maintain the status quo-to keep dancing to a tune that has ceased to play.
Understand, however, that attachment represents comfort and certainty, corresponding to the known. It is an understandable force, but one that needs to be transcended for true growth to occur. Life’s richness lies in its unpredictability and varied rhythms.
On the other hand, the fight to let go is the struggle of embracing this impermanence, of accepting a new dance, a novel melody. It is the recognition that all that begins must end, that every gathering will disperse, every structure will one day crumble to dust only to form new shapes. It is the embrace of the unknown.
Art is not just to let go but to let come, to be open to new experiences, new challenges, and new beginnings. Being fluid, adapting to the continually changing canvas of existence results in harmony.
So when you feel the resistance to change, remember that in letting go, you are not losing; you are transforming, you are evolving. It is not a fight to surrender, but rather an opportunity to dance to the contemporary melodies of life. The dynamic equilibrium between holding on and letting go is the very essence of existence. It is the mastery of this equilibrium.
Love existence, and it will love you back. Be water.
