When you feel you are nobody, when you feel you are nothing, suddenly you are available for many mysteries to happen to you.
This utterance reflects the profound truth that egolessness is the doorway to the divine. Feeling like nobody, feeling like nothing, is not a state of low self-esteem, but rather a profound understanding and acceptance of the fact that in the vastness of the cosmos, the individual self is but a drop in the ocean.
The ego, with its incessant desire for recognition and significance, often stands as a barrier between oneself and the infinite mysteries of existence. It is preoccupied with maintaining its own identity, its separateness from the whole. When you are full of ego, you are too occupied with yourself to be open to the grandeur of the universe.
However, when you dissolve the ego, when you transcend the narrow confines of the ‘I’, ‘me’, and ‘my’, you become an empty vessel. In this space of nothingness, of nobody-ness, you are not crowded by personal desires or fears. You become receptive. In this receptivity, the divine can pour itself into you, and you become one with the flow of life. Mysteries reveal themselves, not because you sought them out, but because you became an empty space for them to fill.
Therefore, to truly engage with the mysteries of life, one’s realisation of being ‘nobody’ is essential. It is not a defeatist attitude, but a surrender to the vast forces of existence, a willingness to let go of the false constructs of individuality that separate oneself from the totality.
Be like the sky, vast and accommodating, and you will taste the boundlessness of existence. This is the path to enlightenment, to becoming one with the all that is – suddenly, without effort, the mysteries begin to dance around you, and through you, for you are no longer there to resist them. You have become a part of the cosmic play, a note in the divine symphony.
