Aloneness and silence are two aspects of one experience, two sides of the same coin.

Aloneness is not loneliness. Loneliness is a negative state of mind where one feels a lack, a desire for the other. It is a sort of poverty, an emptiness that needs to be filled by someone else’s presence. Aloneness, on the other hand, is the very richness of being oneself. It is a fullness, a state in which you are complete and present with your own being. You don’t require the other to fulfil you.

Silence, likewise, is not merely the absence of noise. It is a presence, overflowing with possibilities. In this silence, one can listen to one’s own inner voice, not drowned out by the clamour of the outside world. It is in this profound silence that one can find the music of one’s own consciousness, untouched and pure.

When you are alone and silent, you are not divided. There’s no conflict, no tug between the noise outside and the peace within; you are filled with your own presence. This is the essence of meditation. In this solitary silence, you can encounter your true self, without the distractions that usually fragment your attention. Aloneness and silence together can become a space for transformation, a sacred territory where one, without effort, slips into one’s innermost core.

Embrace this aloneness and this silence. They are not your enemies, they are your very nature waiting to be discovered. In them, you are not just a drop in the ocean, but the entire ocean in a drop. This realisation is the ultimate flowering of consciousness, the realisation of the self that Osho urges seekers to find.
