Wherever you are, be there totally.
The quote encapsulates the essence of being fully present in the moment. Life is a series of present moments, each unique and fleeting. When Osho says, “Wherever you are, be there totally,” he is invoking the power of mindfulness and presence.
To be ‘there totally’ means to engage all of your senses, to immerse yourself in the ‘now’ with your whole being – body, mind, and soul. It’s to live without the distractions of past regrets or future anxieties. It means to not be lost in thoughts, but rather to experience life as it is happening. Your attention is the most valuable gift you can give to the moment, to the people with you, and to the activity at hand.
It strikes at the heart of meditation. Meditation is not just a practice for the cushion or for the serene moments of solitude; it is to be carried into the marketplace, into your daily work, into your relationships. When you are eating, eat; when you are walking, walk; when you are listening, listen – do not let your mind scatter in a thousand directions.
Often, you will find that your mind wanders, hooked by past memories or ensnared by future plans. To be totally there, you must notice these tendencies without judgement and gently guide your awareness back to the present.
By being totally present, you are not divided. You are whole. And in this wholeness, you experience life deeply. This depth brings about a profound sense of peace and an ability to respond to life with openness and flexibility, not with rigid patterns of conditioned behaviour.
Every situation thus becomes an opportunity for growth, for life, for experiencing the infinite nuances that make up existence. To miss the present moment is, in a sense, to miss life itself. So, wherever you are, be there totally, and you will find the divine dancing in every leaf, in every smile, in every tear… Everywhere.
