If you are natural, then that naturalness is enough. If you are not natural, you will need the help of a master.

The quote you offer is a reflection on the authenticity of being, a core aspect of the philosophy that Osho has shared.

To be natural is to be in a state of ease with oneself, to have dissolved the artificial barriers and conditions society has imposed upon one’s behaviour and existence. To be natural is to respond to life not with patterns instilled through conditioning but with a spontaneity that arises from being in tune with one’s true nature, or what one may call the inner self. It is a state of innocence and clarity where one does not act out of past impressions but from a moment of present awareness.

However, most people are estranged from their natural selves. Societal norms, cultural expectations, and personal fears have layered upon their true essence, making such spontaneity rare and challenging to realise. They find themselves trapped in the persona, the masks they wear, confusing these for their true identity. Here, the function of a master becomes critical. A master acts as a mirror, reflecting one’s true face beneath the masks. Through the master’s guidance, one gradually peels away the layers of conditioning and discovers the core within.

The master does not impose a new pattern; rather, the master helps to remove all patterns. The process of working with a master is a deconditioning of the mind and heart; it is a freedom from patterns rather than the adoption of new ones. It is a journey from complexity to simplicity, from dissonance to harmony. In such a process, it’s not about learning but unlearning, not about becoming someone else but unbecoming everything that you are not, so that what is essential in you can manifest and flourish.

Therefore, the assistance of a master is not to give you something new to be, but to help you recognise and relinquish what you are not. The end of this journey is a return to your original nature, the naturalness where no help is required. For in this naturalness, one dances with existence, and one’s actions become an expression of cosmic spontaneity.

In the context of your life, look closely at where you feel forced, artificial, or inauthentic in your actions or ways of being. These are the areas where the guidance of a master can become a gate to your own natural state, where life flows without friction, and your truest potential can be realised.
