Relationships cannot happen before the egos are gone.

Relationships, in their true essence, are the mirrors in which one sees oneself, not just the surface but the depth that lies beneath. When Osho speaks of egos vanishing before genuine relationships can materialise, he is alluding to the masks that we wear, the roles that we play, and the self-images we cling to.

The ego is a complex structure built up over time, consisting of our identification with our thoughts, our bodies, and our social statuses. It is the name we give to that part of ourselves that feels separate from the universe, separate from existence. The ego wants to dominate, to be right, to defend itself. And in its quest to assert its own importance, it often creates barriers to true connection with others.

In the presence of ego, relationships often become transactions. People come together not to share and enhance their consciousness, not to dive into the oceanic experience of togetherness, but to fulfil needs, to exchange emotions, or to escape loneliness. These are the relationships of the marketplace, where love is bargained for and measured.

When egos dissolve, what remains is the pure being. In that space, there is no “I” and “you,” there is only the sacred oneness, the mutual existence that recognises itself in the other. In this oneness, love becomes not a relationship but a state of being. It becomes something you are, not something you do or something you give or get.

To be in a relationship without the ego is to connect from that place of pure consciousness, where one sees the other as a soul, not just a personality. It is in this space that each individual can thrive independently and yet harmoniously. There is acceptance without judgement, companionship without dependency, and love without conditions.

So, when you let go of the ego, you are not losing yourself; instead, you are finding your true nature, which can relate with a heartfelt authenticity that is otherwise obscured by the clouds of ego. In the light of awareness, relationships become instruments of mutual growth and enlightenment, not arenas of conflict and control.

Dive deep into the waters of self-inquiry and let go of what you are not. Only then can you uncover the love that you have been from the very beginning. The journey is inward, and the discovery is that love has always been your nature, never a distant prize to be won through the contortions of the ego.

Remember, the sun does not need to fight the clouds to shine; it simply shines, and the clouds disappear. Similarly, your true nature does not need to wrestle with the ego; it needs only to be realised, and the ego will dissolve.
