Once your heart is empty, you are the Buddha – serene, silent, utterly blissful, at home.
The beauty of emptiness, the canvas of existence. To understand this, one must delve into the depths of what it means to be truly empty. Emptiness, in the realm of consciousness, is not the absence of something, but rather the presence of everything in its purest form – uncluttered by the mind’s projections, desires, and fears.
The heart, often, is filled with the noises of the past – regrets, memories, unfulfilled wishes – and the anxieties of the future, the what ifs, the maybes, and the endless possibilities that may never come to fruition. These noises keep you from hearing the silence of existence, the music of the cosmos vibrating in its totality.
When your heart is empty, it is not desolate, but rather, it is open to the entire spectrum of existence. You become like the sky – clouds, the thoughts, come and go, yet the sky remains untouched, unscratched. You, in your Buddha nature, are the sky. The serenity of the Buddha comes from this very emptiness – a serene heart does not mean a dead heart, but a heart that is alive with the whole of existence, not just a few experiences.
This silence is not dead; it is full of potential, of life. It pulsates with the possibility of everything yet chooses nothingness as its essence. This is the blissfulness of Buddha.
To be at home is not to be in a place. It is to be in a state – a state where you are comfortable anywhere, with anything, because you carry your home within you. This home is the home of peace, love, and silence. It is the home of Buddha.
To reach this state is the journey of meditation, of awareness – simply watching, not adding, not deleting. As you become a watcher, clouds disperse, and the blue sky that you are, the Buddha that you are, is revealed. You are then serene, silent, utterly blissful, at home in the universe and with the universe – because you have found the universe within yourself.
Remember, the path to this emptiness is not through fighting with the mind, but by understanding it, by observing it, and ultimately transcending it. This is the heart of meditation. This is the art of Zen. This is the path of the Buddha.
Walk gently, with awareness, and with love, and you will find that you have always been home.
