How does ego die? The ego dies by accepting what you are.

The quote delves into the concept of the ego’s existence and dissolution is deeply rooted in the tension between one’s current state and their aspirations. The ego derives its energy from the desire to transform into something different from what one presently is. For instance, if an individual is poor and yearns to be wealthy, the ego thrives on this aspiration. Similarly, if one perceives themselves as ignorant and seeks wisdom, or feels insignificant and desires power, the ego is continuously fueled by these ambitions.

To understand the ego’s sustenance, consider that it lives in the space between one’s current reality and their desired state. The ego is formed and maintained by this very tension. Conversely, the ego begins to dissolve when one fully accepts their present self. When an individual embraces their current state and circumstances, acknowledging that they are sufficient as they are and aligning their will with the natural course of existence, the ego loses its foundation.

The dissolution of the ego is further facilitated by relinquishing the tensions related to future aspirations. When one lets go of the incessant drive to become something else in the future, the ego, which relies on the constructs of past achievements and future goals, begins to evaporate. The ego’s claims are deeply entrenched in past accomplishments and future ambitions, but it has no real presence in the present moment. By anchoring oneself in the present, the ego loses its grip and ultimately ceases to exist. Thus, living in the present moment signifies the death of the ego.
