No act is virtuous, no act is a sin. What consciousness is behind the act – everything depends on that.
In this existence, where duality is the very fabric of life, actions are often labelled as virtuous or sinful. But life is not black and white – it is a vast expanse of grey colours, where each hue tells a unique story.
When Osho says, “No act is virtuous, no act is a sin. What consciousness is behind the act – everything depends on that,” I invite you to look beyond the act itself, to the intention, the awareness, and the consciousness from which it springs.
An act becomes ‘virtuous’ or a ‘sin’ not because of its external appearance but due to the internal state from which it originates. If an act arises from a place of love, awareness, and a desire for the well-being of all, it carries a different quality than an act arising from hate, greed, or ignorance.
Consider a surgeon cutting into a body. If the intention is to heal, the very same act that could be seen as violence in another context becomes an act of compassion. Similarly, a word spoken with love can heal, but the same word uttered with anger can wound.
It is the consciousness behind your actions that breathes life into them. A conscious being acts with an awareness that is dynamic and responsive to the moment, reflecting a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of all existence.
Therefore, as you walk through life, pay attention not just to what you are doing but to the inner quality of your being while you are doing it. This consciousness becomes your greatest guide, leading you to actions that are in harmony with existence, beyond the simplistic judgments of ‘virtuous’ or ‘sinful’.
