The moment your consciousness has become a flame, concentrated, you will not be able to find the ego.
Let us journey through the layers of this understanding together. The essence of consciousness is likened to a flame in this quote. It is not a static entity but a dynamic, ever-changing phenomenon. When your awareness is scattered, it is as if your flame is spread thin, flickering in the winds of external circumstances and inward confusion. In this state, the ego thrives – it operates in fragmentation, fueling itself on your divisions, your past, and your expectations for the future.
Now imagine, you gather all those flickering lights, all the tendrils of your attention that are lost in memories, anticipations, and you bring them into the present moment. You concentrate your consciousness as if you are focusing the rays of the sun through a magnifying glass. This concentration is a deep meditation, it is total awareness and presence in the now.
In such a state of heightened and focused awareness, the ego dissolves. Why? Because the ego is the very source of distraction; it is the entity that needs the past and the future to exist. It feeds on your divided attention, your fears, your desires. But when you are truly present, utterly concentrated in your being, there’s no space left for the ego. In this moment, you are not a person with a history or a destiny; you are the pure experience of existence, the silent witness of life itself.
Understand that the ego is a shadow, a byproduct of your disarrayed consciousness. When the light of your awareness becomes intense and focused, the shadows disappear. Just as darkness cannot coexist with light, the ego cannot coexist with a concentrated flame of consciousness. In that radiant moment, you are not your name, your story, your success or failure – you are the boundless existence. That is liberation. That is the divine play of life. You become an empty vessel through which the universe expresses itself without hindrance.
The key to this state is to cultivate mindfulness, to train your attention to remain in the present, and to observe without attachment or aversion. Such practices may lead you to moments where the ego ceases and reality is experienced as it truly is – unfiltered, luminous, and infinitely expansive.
The path is within you, as is the potential for the flame to rise and encompass your entire being. The dance of consciousness and ego is within; observe it, understand it, and transcend it.
