See everyone you meet as a teacher.
To perceive everyone you encounter as a teacher necessitates an openness to learning. This perspective is not contingent on others but rather on oneself. True learning occurs when there is a sense of spaciousness, a quality often found in children. A child’s innocence allows them to operate from a state of not-knowing, which is the cornerstone of genuine learning: engaging from a place of curiosity and openness.
To cultivate this state, one must observe and reflect without hastily forming conclusions. Preconceived notions, whether derived from scriptures, educational institutions, mentors, parents, or personal experiences, can hinder the learning process. When you believe you already possess the answers, the opportunity for further learning diminishes. It is essential to set aside prior knowledge to remain open to new insights and growth.
Continuous growth is achievable by maintaining a childlike sense of wonder and innocence. This approach ensures that learning never ceases, even until one’s final moments. A person who embraces this mindset learns from both life and death, transcending the limitations of both experiences.
Learning requires receptivity, vulnerability, and an openness to new possibilities. It is an ongoing, open-ended process that demands a willingness to discard established knowledge in favour of new understanding. By remaining open and receptive, one can continually evolve and expand their horizons, embracing the journey of lifelong learning.
