1. Be A Hollow Bamboo:
“This is one of Tilopa’s special methods. Every master has his own special method through which he has attained, and through which he would like to help others. This is Tilopa’s specialty: Like a hollow bamboo rest at ease with your body.
2. THE PERSISTENCE OF THE CHINESE BAMBOO TREE
You take a Chinese bamboo tree seed, plant it, water it, and fertilize it for a whole year. Nothing happens.
The second year you water it and fertilize it, and nothing happens.
The third year you water it and fertilize it, and nothing happens. How discouraging this becomes!
The fourth year you water it and fertilize it, and nothing happens. This is very frustrating.
The fifth year you continue to water and fertilize the seed and then… take note. Sometime during the fifth year, THE CHINESE BAMBOO TREE SPROUTS AND GROWS NINETY FEET IN SIX WEEKS.
Life is much akin to the growing process of the Chinese bamboo tree. It is often discouraging: we seemingly do things right, and nothing happens.
But for those who do things right and are not discouraged and are persistent, things WILL happen. Finally we begin to receive the rewards.
3. Magical Houses, Made of Bamboo Lifestyles
Long-time Bali resident Elora Hardy explains the sustainability and beauty of bamboo buildings at TED in March 2015.
Elora left behind a career as a print designer for Donna Karan in New York to return to her childhood playground, Bali, where she builds stunning bamboo homes with an extremely gifted crew of artisans, designers and architects. The very setting of those soaring structures set in the lush rain forest are a feast to look at.
In this talk she shares the potential of bamboo, as both a sustainable resource and a spark for the imagination.
