What generosity can give us: Generous people report being happier, healthier, and more satisfied with life than those who don’t give. Generosity produces within us understanding and a sense that we are capable of making a difference in the world, that we are actively addressing the needs of those around us, and that we are shaping our community into a healthier one. While generosity is typically seen as the opposite of self-serving, counting the personal benefits is indeed one of the most important steps that we can take in getting started.
Sometimes, the most important step you can take to become more generous is to spend more time thinking about what you already possess and less time thinking about what you don’t. Once you start intentionally thinking that way, you may be surprised just how good you already have it… and become more apt to share your life with others.
The God has humbled me with a simple reminder: Generosity comes in many shapes and sizes.
Generosity is the overflow of a humble heart—an attitude, not a one-size-fits-all act. If it were only about money, many of us would be disqualified from exercising it. But since God has called all his people to generosity of spirit, there’s more to it than meets the eye:
God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. . . . They will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them . . . because of the surpassing grace of God upon you.
Anuradha will share her own experience with you all:
May be the money I gave to my maid servant or the garbage collector doesn’t matter because I had given my house maid a few thousands or a hundred rupees to the garbage collector.
My maid was passing through some difficult time. She was at that time not even coming regularly. But because I followed my heart I gave her some money whatever I felt it was right.
The circumstance in which I gave money gave me satisfaction at that moment and made them also extremely happy. Since they never expected that help when they were in need. My house maid didn’t turn up for almost a month without information due to some personal issues. Her financial position was very bad. Where ever she worked , she was denied her wages due to her absence. But I understood her condition and gave her what she needed.
She expressed her happiness and thanked me.
The good things whatever we do to others are not be expressed or remembered. But whatever we get from others shouldn’t be forgotten. This is my humble opinion.
Being generous begins with treating each person as though they have already achieved the potential for greatness that is in every one of us. Giving something willingly and happily without expecting anything in return is generosity. In essence, generosity is the sincere desire to make others’ lives easier and more pleasant.
