Silence is an ambiguous issue in this area. For a believer, no audible answer to prayer is required; God is still listening, even though the conversation has silence at the other end. Meditation turns silence into something valuable on its own. Our brains change with every thought, because thoughts form a feedback loop that every cell eavesdrops on. In the tradition of meditation, silence also forms a feedback loop. A wordless voice says, “Here is peace.” Cells can eavesdrop on that message, too, and when they do, pathways in the brain are changed just as surely as when we respond to thoughts, sensations and emotions.
To say that prayers are answered isn’t the same as saying that God answers prayers. In the first case, a thought manifests as reality. You wish, intend, or ask for an outcome, and the outcome appears. In the second case, a supernatural being in the sky listens to millions of requests every day and kindly responds to a few while turning his back on the vast majority. The first post in this series was devoted to a consciousness-based explanation for prayers as opposed to a religious explanation.
The Obstacles in Prayer
If this explanation is correct, it describes unanswered prayers as the product of a mind that is restless, shallow, conflicted, or unable to focus. All of us suffer from these obstacles.
Answered prayers, on the other hand, represent a kind of total clarity that may come at any moment, like the sudden parting of the clouds, and at such a moment the mechanism that fulfills intentions works smoothly. Although Samyama is identified in the tradition of Yoga as a high attainment, it seems reasonable to say that the same mechanism exists in everyday consciousness. After all, to live is to carry out intentions.
Once you understand how the mechanism works, you have a choice. You can meditate or pursue other spiritual techniques that bring the three elements of intentionality together. The results will not be the same on every path. Some people will experience a prayer coming true, others will be able to live in the present moment, and others still may feel that they are connected to God.
Having learnt from a mundane physical entity like an X-ray Film, on how to connect with my soul, I wish to share my personal experience of rendering, reflecting and contemplating on solemn prayer, to get connected with the soul and knowing it in totality.
Anil will share his experience of prayerful approach:
My prayerful approach associated with simple as well as most complex science and technology issues, provided me time to time several Gurus, during travel, technical conferences, spiritual get togethers, visitors, etc. They propelled me, towards my true self (soul) having guiding me through meditation and blessings. For example, I realised the properties of Space (better understood as Aakash) having properties related to energy. Space can store energy (in electrical context one can define and quantify it as ½ Li2 in an inductor, or ½ CV2 in a capacitor). Space can also transmit energy (solar energy reaching earth through space). Matter-Energy equations being well known and expounded, it is easy to perceive ourselves as energy generators and even transmitters. On touching our true self (soul), it is easy to know the factual situation of space within us and the universal space is just one (अद्वैत), providing infinite possibilities.
This understanding of mine has changed my entire life. Now for my all the action comes from very delightful fragrance and relaxed mind. I don’t get anxious for anything but for my actions I just look what are the more possibilities are available to me and at the same time to others.
