Unemployment. Mental illnesses. Drug addictions. Antisocial and asocial behavior. All these have increased as the spread and level of education increased. Education was meant so that everyone will be able to earn livelihood gracefully and live happily. But things have taken wrong shapes and turns. More we are trying to improve the situation, the more it is becoming worse and out of control. What has gone wrong?
Because people go on thinking ‘about’, so they miss their whole life. Thinking becomes smoke; everything moves into it and everything is finished.
And action becomes impossible because action is direct, and thinking is indirect. They never meet.
This is the problem in the world. People who think, never act; and people who don’t think, go on acting. The world is in misery. People who are fools, go on acting because they never think, they jump in everything. Hitlers and Napoleons, and Maos, they go on doing things, and wise people, the so-called thinkers–Aristotle, or Kant, or Hegel–they go on thinking, they never do anything.
The problem for a man who is seeking reality is how to stop the vicious circle of thinking, yet be aware. Because fools also don’t think, but they are not aware.
BRING MORE AWARENESS TO YOUR ACTION:
Be aware–the energy that moves into thinking should become awareness. Consciousness that goes on in a vicious circle with thinking should be retained, purified. Thinking should stop, the whirling of consciousness should stop, but not consciousness. Consciousness should become more crystallised and action should be there, action should not stop.
Thinking is to be renounced, but you are not to become more unaware, more unconscious. You have to become more conscious.
Awareness plus action, and you will attain reality immediately. And you will create a situation in which others can also attain reality. You will become a milieu, a climate around which things will start happening.
Remember: action is good, thinking is a vicious circle; it never leads anywhere. So thinking has to stop but not action.
You have to become more and more sensitive in your doing. Doing is not to be renounced; action should be totally there, because that is the passage through which you move into reality and the reality moves into you. Try to understand, because this is very basic–basic in religion: renounce thinking, don’t renounce action.
There are people who go on thinking, and there are people who go on renouncing action. But in the Himalayas what will they do? Then the whole energy, not moving in action, will move into thinking. They will become great philosophers. But philosophy is a fool’s land; you live in words, not in realities. Love disappears, only the word ‘love’ is retained. God disappears, because he was there in the fields, in the market, in the world, but the word ‘God’ is retained. Actions disappear, only concepts are carried. Your head becomes your whole being.
Thinking is to be renounced, but you are not to become more unaware, more unconscious. You have to become more conscious.
This is the whole art of meditation: how to convert the energy that was moving into thinking to become awareness. So that you can act without any association with the past and future. Means you will set up a goal but putting all your energy into how you can act in this moment and respond to every moment to move towards GOAL.
Science also is studying how knowledge can be brought into action. So they suggests that thinking with hands instead of heads can actually improve people’s performance and assist them in finding solutions to problems in a novel way.
Challenging The Conventional Way Of Thinking With The Head
As a universal understanding, people think and solve problems using their heads. Psychology specialists from Kingston University have challenged the age old idea that thinking can strictly take place in the head.
Through their research, Frédéric Vallée-Tourangeau, Professor of Psychology, and Gaëlle Vallée-Tourangeau, Professor of Organisational Behaviour, are in quest to prove that thinking can be done efficiently with hands and things. The two experts tried to display that by using physical objects and tools while problem solving, one can ignite novel ways of resolving problems.
Thinking With Hands Vs Thinking With Head
The experiment conducted by the researchers is published in the Science Direct journal Acta Psychologica. It involved 50 participants solving the 17 animal-problems. It required deriving the solution of putting 17 animals in four pens in a unique way that each pen holds an odd number of animals. The participants were divided into two sets: One set employed electronic tablets and stylus for sketching the solution, while the other set used their hands to construct physical models to find the solution.
The two experts inferred that the participants using their hands to build models were able to find the answer to the problems easily when compared to the ones using tablets.
“We showed with this study that for some types of problems – regardless of an individual’s cognitive ability – being able to physical interact with tools gave people a fighting chance of solving it,” said Vallée-Tourangeau.
Frédéric Vallée-Tourangeau further stated that opposed to the method of physical handling of tools, the pen and paper method made it difficult for the participants to reach a solution. Thus, It showed how adapting to the real world can actually boost people’s performance.
Once we start doing this way, ethics will permeate automatically. In practicing or developing or learning skills everybody will have to work hard, honestly, innovatively and with the cooperation of others. There may be failures but there will also be standing again with hope and courage. In doing this appreciation of others will also develop.
