Only the witnessing self, just the pure awareness remains with you, and this is the preparation for death.

The quote is deeply rooted in the essence of life and the ultimate journey towards the eternal. It speaks of the nature of existence beyond the physical form.

Understand this – that which you truly are is not confined to the body or the mind. Your body will age, your mind will change, but there is an aspect of your being that remains untarnished by time or experience. This is your witnessing self, your pure awareness.

Life is a series of experiences, a play of forms and sensations, and the mind is always reacting, creating ripples upon the surface of consciousness. Yet, below these ripples, in the silence and depth of your being, is the witness, the observer, unattached and unfettered by the dance of creation.

This pure awareness is akin to the sky. Clouds come and go, storms may rage, but the sky remains untouched and expansive, so too your awareness observes the thoughts, emotions, and events without becoming involved.

Now, when it comes to preparation for death, one must understand it as the final act of letting go. In death, all that is impermanent falls away – the body, the mind, the ego. What remains? Only that which is eternal: your awareness, your consciousness.

To prepare for death is to practise this letting go daily, to live in the witness. To observe life as it unfolds without attaching oneself to outcomes or identifications. This is a practice of meditation – to sit with oneself and observe without attachment, to witness without becoming.

This witness is your true self, the self that does not die but continues beyond the bodily form. By cultivating your awareness of this self, you are preparing not just for death but for the ultimate truth of existence.

Embrace this truth, and you will live a life free from the fear of death, for you will know intimately the immortal aspect of your being. As you become more rooted in the presence of the witness, you will find peace and clarity in the face of life’s many changes.

Life is a fleeting play; witness it with joy and detachment. Death is simply a transformation, the dropping of the body. In preparation, become that witnessing self now, and you will understand both life and death in their purest form.

Remember, death is not the end, but a profound teacher on the path to enlightenment. Let your witness guide you, and you will walk hand in hand with the divine, in life and beyond.
