Meditation needs infinite patience.
Meditation indeed requires infinite patience, for it is not an act but a flowering, and flowering does not happen hurriedly. It is a gradual unfolding of your consciousness. Like a flower that does not rush to bloom, meditation cannot be forced or expedited. It happens in its own time and space.
To be in meditation is to be in tune with the existential rhythm of life. You cannot push the river; you flow with it. So is the case with meditation – you sit silently, you wait, without any expectation, without any end goal in mind. Herein lies the paradox: striving to achieve meditation is the very barrier to achieving it. Only when striving ceases can meditation be.
This infinite patience is not passive; it is an alert witnessing of all that transpires within and without. Each moment, each breath, each beat of the heart is observed with a gentle acknowledgment. The winds of thoughts and emotions may stir the surface of your being, but your inner witness remains unperturbed.
Infinite patience in meditation is akin to the patience of nature. A seed patiently gathers energy from the earth, warmth from the sun, and finally erupts into a plant. It does not happen instantly but over time; time that is needed for deep-rooted growth.
So, beloved, as you meditate, be patient. Let go of the hurry, the constant clock-watching nature of the mind that seeks results. Embrace the moment-to-moment existence with love and patience, and let meditation bloom within you like a lotus that traverses muddy waters to find its blossoming unimpeded by the mud.
Remember, meditation is not something you do, it is something that will eventually happen to you. If you wait, not for the meditation but wait for nothing in particular, totally relaxed and at ease, it comes… it certainly comes.
