Be Enthusiastic – In Gita Verse 2.24 This individual soul is unbreakable and insoluble, and can be neither burned nor dried. He is everlasting, present everywhere, unchangeable, immovable and eternally the same.
Embracing the Eternal Within: The Unchanging Soul
In the celestial poem of the Bhagavad Gita, there lies a verse that illuminates the nature of the soul: “This individual soul is unbreakable and insoluble, and can be neither burned nor dried. It is everlasting, present everywhere, unchangeable, immovable, and eternally the same.” Such words are not mere allegory but a reminder of the profound truth that resides within us all.
It is believed that our parents give us the vessel of the body, but life – the spark within this vessel – is a gift from the universe itself, carried by the soul, which is eternal. This connection, this thread that runs through every being, is unassailable and timeless.
Even beyond the poetic wisdom of spiritual texts, science echoes this truth. Einstein himself understood the law of conservation of matter, which states that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. This principle of science mirrors the spiritual teaching that the essence of life remains constant, changing only in outward form. Both point to a profound revelation: the aliveness within us is immutable and can be tapped into through the simplicity of silence.
Consider the power of enthusiasm. When we are brimming with this vibrant energy, petty annoyances and angers lose their grip on us. It is not happiness, which so often is contingent upon circumstance, but rather a state of inner enthusiasm that grants this stability. It is, in essence, the soul’s calm that no external tumult can shatter.
So, what is enthusiasm? It is a state of keen interest, a joyful eagerness that infuses us with life-affirming energy. Approaching life without it turns our days into a tedious watch of the clock, but embracing enthusiasm transforms our experience into a riveting engagement with every moment.
When you harbour a deep interest, you rise beyond the clutter of the mundane. Imagine a room scattered with objects compared to one that is tidy and well-arranged; in the latter, navigation is effortless. Similarly, when you are filled with enthusiasm, your thoughts align, and you open yourself to guidance from inner realms.
In the growth of a seed, no one finds the tree hidden within, yet given space and nurturing, it emerges. Enthusiasm functions in the same way: proven by conscious observation, you realise that nothing can disturb the eternal aspect of yourself. By allowing conscious awareness to take root, we come to know we are not merely physical bodies or wandering minds, but pure awareness, untouched by time.
This awareness is our true home, for while everything in life is in constant flux, it remains unchanging. Clinging to the impermanent creates suffering. Recognising the unchanging invites bliss.
Enthusiasm thus becomes a gateway to a higher consciousness. It is a touch of the subjective, a glimpse of the eternal soul within each of us. As enthusiasm lifts our energy, we feel ever-renewed. Understand that every aspect of our life offers a chance to expand in consciousness.
From our evolutionary journey in the animal form to the human vessel we now inhabit, one thing sets us apart: the potential to grow in consciousness, to transcend dualities such as joy and sorrow, love and hate. This journey into consciousness is not merely our opportunity but our responsibility.
Krishna’s dialogue with Arjuna is not an instruction but a memory jogger, reiterating what Arjuna already knew deep within: the soul is indestructible. Similarly, our living masters don’t impose new wisdom upon us; instead, they remind us to awaken, to foster the seed of consciousness that existence has gifted us.
The call is to awaken, to grow in awareness, and to embrace the eternal witness that is the core of our being. Let us heed this call.
