You Are Everywhere – In Gita Verse 14.12 O chief of the Bhāratas, when there is an increase in the mode of passion the symptoms of great attachment, fruitive activity, intense endeavour, and uncontrollable desire and hankering develop.

In this verse, Krishna elucidates the markers of passion that ensnare us.

In the narrative of life as it unfolds, Krishna, in Bhagavad Gita Verse 2.38, presents a parable that resonates deeply with the human condition – the symptoms of passion. These symptoms, as Krishna enlightens, serve as milestones on the journey of consciousness. When we observe the rise of passion, we observe the dance of the gunas within us, and in this observation, we find a profound teaching: You are everywhere.

Understanding Ubiquity: You Are Everywhere

The Atman, your true self, is unbounded by the ephemeral vessel of your physical form, untethered from the gunas that paint the panorama of life’s experiences. As pure consciousness, you seamlessly become part of the eternal tapestry. When gripped by passion, become the silent witness to this inner theatre, knowing full well that you are the observer, not the fluctuating passions themselves.

Symptoms of Passion: Indicators of Inner Unrest

As the mode of passion surges, it brings forth a deluge of attachment, craving the fruits of actions, intense endeavour, and an insatiable whirlpool of desires. Remember, these are but transient waves signalling the need to return to your centre. Let your awareness be the anchor amidst this turbulent sea. Observe the arising and fading of these desires without allowing them to ensnare your immutable core.

The Illusion of Perception: Don’t Deceive Yourself

Do not be seduced by the grand illusion – the maya – that finds pleasure in acquisition and accomplishment. These fleeting states are ephemeral, seducing the ego into a false essence bound by experiences and accolades. Cut through these illusions and reconnect with your indelible self, invulnerable to the whims of passion.

Acknowledgment of Attachment: The Prelude to Transformation

Krishna and Buddha converge on a poignant truth: attachment begets suffering. To transcend, one must first confront the stark reality – your identification with the body. This is no mere intellectual endeavour but an existential awakening. For if you harbour the illusion of detachment while living in entwinement with your corporal self, you live a divided life – a schism between the body you inhabit and the soul you espouse.

The Revelation of Attachment: Experiencing the Visceral Truth

Embracing the uncomfortable reality of bodily attachment is essential for genuine understanding. Thus, the lofty abstraction of non-attachment dissipates into an experiential truth. It is here, in the tangible recognition of our bond to the physical, that the seeds of liberation are sown.

The Dichotomy of Self: Dividing the Divine

The habit of assigning nobler attributes to the self and baser ones to the body perpetuates the cycle of illusion. In recognising attachment as the inferno that it is, casting it aside becomes a spontaneous act – not a methodical process but an intuitive escape.

Confronting Attachment: The Passage to Freedom

Stripping away the comforting veil of illusion to expose the entirety of your captivation with the body is like entering the crucible of transformation. Though fraught with inner turmoil, it is through this cathartic process that the true self is revealed – not by shunning reality but rather by facing the conflagration of attachment head-on.

Universal Oneness: The Expansion Beyond the Self

Upon relinquishing bodily attachment, you realise that your presence extends beyond physical constructs. The Vigyan Bhairav Tantra imparts a timeless sutra: “Toss aside attachment for the body, realising I am everywhere.” This epiphany illuminates that your body is not an insular entity but a manifestation of existence itself. Detached, you perceive existence in its entirety as your form.

Krishna and Buddha beckon us toward enlightenment: the body is only a limitation if one’s identity is rooted in attachment. When you transcend, the body transforms from a perceived boundary into a channel of union with the infinite cosmos. In this state of unbounded existence, you are interwoven with all, free and omnipresent.
