Integrating Ancient Wisdom in Modern Life: Self-discipline or Self-identity

  1. Austerity of Communication – our communication is emotionally unstable, impatience positively or negatively. These communications are lower as it creates distance in relationship with self and others.
  2. Austerity of Communication will help us to leave lower communication and move towards higher. This is possible because of your practice of Austerity you will become awake towards your emotional instability, impatience positively or negatively. Awakening towards this will move higher communication because you will be non reactive, living for truth without fear, will be affectionate, listening to other a person without judgements, responding to what is required, you will become mindful regarding what to speak and what not to speak. When you move higher then your communication will be – Receive, contemplate and speak.
  3. Austerity of Mental Competence means uniting our divided and dissipated energy together by concentration. Concentration is thinking about what you are doing right now and not thinking about anything else. When your energy is united you will be able to finish your task efficiently in minimum time. You will become more responsible for your task and time.
  4. Also understand the difference between thoughts and thinking. Thought is the capacity of not being here – so thought cannot exist in the herenow, it cannot be part of it. That is impossible. Thought can only be either of the past, or of the future. Thought can never be of the present; that is implied in the very process of thinking – it is intrinsic to it.
  5. The main difference is that, although thoughts are self-arising, thinking is a choice. It is something you can choose to engage in or not. Unlike thoughts arising, which you can’t do anything about, you can choose to stop thinking at any moment. The first step is awareness. To be able to change these patterns, we first need to be aware of them. Understanding the difference between thoughts and thinking is a game-changer if you wish to live in harmony with your mind.
  6. Rajasik and Tamasik Austerity is practised for self-identity and getting power over others. While practising this if you wish you can turn towards Satvik Austerity, which is for spiritual growth and self-discipline. Same time and energy you can use either for Satvik or for Rajasik and Tamsik. If the energy moves towards Satvik then self-discipline will develop and if it moves towards Rajasik and Tamsik then your self-identity will become stronger. You have to choose what you want: self-discipline or self-identity.
