Master Is Everything – In Gita Verse 18.69 He who, with supreme devotion to Me, will teach this supreme secret to My devotees, shall doubtless come to Me.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Verse 18.69, Krishna proclaims that the one who, with supreme devotion, teaches this supreme secret to His devotees will undoubtedly come to Him. This individual is not only dear to Krishna but is also the dearest among men on earth. Naturally, who can be more dear to God than the one who immerses people in the divine wisdom of Krishna?

Krishna emphasises that such a person is the most cherished among His devotees and will certainly attain Him, becoming one with Him. When one sings the song of Krishna or recites the Bhagavad Gita with the right harmony, tune, and instrument, they become Krishna-like. However, if one is filled with hatred, criticism, or opposition, this transformation will not occur. If the individual is disinterested or forcefully told, the divine connection will not be established. Presently, if the person lacks the yearning for liberation and desires wealth or position, discussing religion will not resonate. Calling out to God might be perceived as a hindrance, creating a futile disturbance.

Contrary to a person’s wishes, they cannot be forcefully brought back to God. Freedom is the ultimate goal, and every person lives by their own freedom. While we can offer support and guidance, each individual must walk their own path.

Krishna states that the spiritual teacher or master who imparts the secret knowledge to a devotee is more dear to Him and will undoubtedly come to Him. Such a person is cherished because the true birth of a seeker or devotee happens through the master. One birth is from the parents, and another occurs between the disciple and the master. Mysticism cannot be taught; it can only be caught. This second birth opens all doors and secrets, transforming life into a continuous adventure filled with excitement and ecstasy.

Life and death become two wings of the same bird, and the entire sky of consciousness becomes accessible. One does not need to adhere to any specific religion; one only needs to be a child. The master gives a new birth, a birth of consciousness that knows no end.

According to old Hindu scriptures, being with a master is akin to being in his womb. The energy field of the master transforms and transfigures the individual, giving birth to a new being. Through the master, one attains a new birth, becoming twice-born. The first birth is from the parents, while the second birth is of the spirit and soul.

Once a stirring in consciousness begins, the process of growth is triggered and continues on its own. The initial step is the most challenging, akin to a seed falling into the soil and ready to die. Once this step is taken, the seed dies, and a sprout starts growing. Just as a seed grows into a tree with branches and flowers, initiation into spiritual practice is like a seed falling into the soil. The disciple must dissolve their ego in the master, and then the true work begins. The first birth is through the parents, but the true birth is through the master.

The guru’s role is to completely dissolve the disciple’s ego. Unlike a father’s superficial guidance, the guru delves deep within to cleanse the disciple’s being. The guru’s blows are metaphorical, targeting the ego until it melts away. Until one finds such a guru, they may feel that their time is being wasted with other masters.

A master is essential to penetrate the deepest layers of one’s being, where conditioning has occurred, and to destroy it. The master must become more significant than one’s parents for this transformation to be possible. This is why Buddha and Jesus made seemingly harsh statements about hating or killing one’s parents; they emphasised the need to transcend parental conditioning to achieve spiritual growth.

Meditation involves deep listening to the inner voice. As one becomes silent, external voices cease, and the true self emerges. This inner voice guides one towards their path to God. The master’s role is to help the disciple connect with this inner voice, not to become a substitute for it. The master should facilitate the disciple’s journey to their inner self.

An atmosphere of absolute trust is necessary for spiritual growth. In such an environment, things happen organically. The master serves as a vehicle for universal forces, like a hollow bamboo becoming a flute. The song is not of the bamboo but of the universal consciousness. The master is a medium, allowing the divine song to flow through.

Krishna asserts that the master is everything: the mother, the father, the brother. The master embodies all relationships, guiding the disciple towards spiritual enlightenment.
