One of the most important question anyone has is… how can we enjoy every moment? The answer to this tricky questions lies nowhere else but within You! Be self aware… simple said than done.

What is being self aware. We all think we know what we are. What’s there to be aware of??? Being self aware is not knowing your outer self or as people perceive you. It is knowing about your own thoughts, your strengths and weaknesses and most importantly your emotions.

The first foundational step is to become aware of what kind of thoughts you habitually think, especially negative thoughts: irritation, anger, impatience and perhaps even some kind of sadness. You might, for example, complain about yourself, how useless you are. If you start to hear these repetitive thoughts, then you will suddenly realize, “I’ve been thinking these same thoughts again and again almost every day without really knowing it.”

Distinguish Between the Voice of Ego and the Actual Situation

Awareness is the beginning of becoming free of the ego because then you realize that your thoughts—and the negative emotions they produce—are dysfunctional and unnecessary. For example, let’s go back to the supermarket line. As you stand waiting, you aren’t actually irritated because it’s taking a long time to get through to the checkout, which is the situation. You are irritated by what your mind is telling you about the situation—which is that all this waiting is bad and a waste of your time. But you could actually be enjoying that moment if you say, “This is simply what is. There’s nothing I can do about it, so why not breathe in deeply and look around and enjoy the world around me?”

Once we know our thoughts it becomes easy for us to handle our emotions… let me explain! How many times have we thought about pulling back a word we said or undo something we just did. We do it unintentionally but the damage is already done. What if we were aware of our emotions, our reaction and hence the outcome would be completely different.

We should always focus our attention inwards. It is not going to happen in a day or a week or a month. But being self aware helps is change our emotions, out behaviour and our personality.

So friends, need be maintain a journal about your thoughts, do a daily self reflection, seek feedback from your close ones…  once we are completely aware of what we are, we can create the ability to lead our life with a purpose…. in turn value each moment and enjoy it!
