Logic Is Analysis – In Gita Verse 15.5 Those who are free from false prestige, illusion and false association, who understand the eternal, who are done with material lust, who are freed from the dualities of happiness and distress, and who, un-bewildered, know how to surrender unto the Supreme Person attain to that eternal kingdom.

Let us delve into the essence of this verse and explore the meaningful discourse between Krishna and Arjuna in the sacred Bhagavad Gita, as well as the insights from the Sarvasar Upanishad. Through their wisdom, we aim to comprehend the intricate interplay of the ego and the true self.

Krishna’s words in the battlefield are a beacon of light for those entangled in the web of self-created struggles. He describes the enlightened ones as those devoid of vanity and the trappings of ego. They recognise the timeless truth, live beyond the appetites of the flesh, and remain undisturbed by the dualities of joy and sorrow. Such beings, present and unwavering, know the art of surrender to the divine.

The Sarvasar Upanishad provides a profound insight – the Self or soul embodies both the divine and the mortal. Yet, it teaches us that there is a fundamental separation between the eternal soul and the transient ego. The human body, distinct from the soul, is prone to the illusion of false self-identification, giving rise to the constricting bonds of ego. True liberation emerges with the dissolution of ego, a liberation that comes through ‘vidya’, or enlightened understanding. This requires a deliberate process of relinquishing ‘avidya’, the false identifications that feed the ego, to reveal the purity of the Self.

Logic analyses, dissecting reality into fragments to be studied and understood in isolation. However, in this act of dissection, we lose sight of the organic whole. Religion, contrary to this approach, unifies; it synthesises the fragments into a tapestry where the divine subtly emerges. Just as a fragrance cannot be separated from the flower without losing its essence, the divine cannot be understood through the mere aggregation of parts. It is an emergent property of the whole – alive, non-mechanical, and inherently organic.

To identify with anything that one is not, is to forge the chains of the ego. The ego is an erroneous identification with transitory elements such as the body, mind, name, or form. This identification is not you; it is a prison of ‘I’, of mistaken identity. To break free from this prison, one must not identify with anything. You are already what you seek; you need no identification. When you stand in your pure existence, the ego dissolves, leaving behind no trace of ‘I’, only the infinite existence that is the true self.

The concept of ‘avidya’ encompasses more than ignorance – it pertains to actively projecting a false sense of ‘I’, an existence that holds no truth. Vidya is the dynamic, transformative energy that dispels these projections, a force that dismantles the illusions to uncover the reality of the pure self.

Krishna guides us towards an existence free from the mind’s deceptive projections, leading to actions and decisions untainted by the ego. It is in this state of pure action that we find true surrender to the ultimate divine force. This surrender is not defeat but a harmonious union, an entry into an eternal kingdom untouched by the transient play of dualities.

Through understanding the self as separate from the ego, we embark on a journey not just of intellectual realisation but of living the Truth. It is a vivid embrace of existence without the constraints of the analytical mind, a synthesis of all facets of life, material and spiritual.

With the quietude of the ego comes an omnipresent harmony. Walking this path isn’t just about acquiring knowledge; it is about descending into the heart of being – peeling away every trace of ‘I’ to reveal the symphony of oneness that resides within.

Krishna teaches that the annihilation of the mind’s projections is the key to true action. When one acts without the influence of these illusions, they surrender to the Supreme Being and are graced with access to the everlasting realm. Let these words transcend mere perusal and resonate with the depth of your being, for the core of truth lies not in the mere act of reading, but in the profound awakening to our immortal essence.
